Orbit Books

Orbit Books is the platform's finance and accounting module. It handles tax configuration, compliance reporting, and financial operations — providing organizations with the tools to manage taxation, generate reports, and maintain regulatory compliance.

How Orbit Books is scoped — read this first

Orbit Books does not work per project. Its records belong to a legal entity (the company that files the returns), and entities belong to the organization. Every other project-centric module — Orbit Ops, Orbit Resolve, Orbit Papers, Orbit Pulse, Inventory, Storefront — filters what you see by the project picked in the top bar. Books does not, so the project picker is hidden while you are inside Orbit Books, and the module shows an entity selector in its place.

QuestionAnswer
What isolates my data? The organization (tenant) first, then the legal entity
Does the project picker change Books figures? No — it is hidden inside Books for that reason
Can one organization keep several sets of books?Yes: one entity per company, each with its own chart of accounts, numbering, fiscal year, currency, tax registrations and reminders
Where do projects fit? Each project maps to exactly one entity, which decides whose ledger receives that project's events (orders, expenses, stock, contracts)
How do I see figures per project?Tag journal lines with a dimension (cost centre, project, department, branch) and group by it in reports

Example. A tenant running "Example Ltd India" and "Example Inc USA" creates two entities in the same organization: India with INR, a 31 March year end and GSTIN/PAN, USA with USD and a 31 December year end. Each keeps its own accounts and documents; group statements come from a consolidation run, which translates currencies and eliminates intercompany balances.

Access is per organization, not per entity

Anyone holding Books permissions can switch the entity selector to any entity in the organization. There is no per-entity restriction today, so a user who should only see one company's books cannot be limited to it inside a single organization — use separate organizations if you need that boundary.
