Create a calendar

What this page is — the drawer that creates a calendar and, later, edits it.

What it is for — choosing the template, naming the calendar, setting its working rules, and optionally publishing it or wiring up invitations.

The problem it solves — the drawer is long, and one of its choices is permanent. This page says which one, and in what order to fill the rest in.

Route: /org/orbits → New Calendar · Permission: Create Orbit Calendars (to create), Edit Orbit calendar (to change)

Figure 1 — The drawer as it opens.

1. Basic information

Calendar Name and an optional Description. The name is what appears on the dashboard card and at the top of the calendar, and it is what people search for.

Calendar names are not required to be unique

Two calendars in the same project can share a name. If you run several similar calendars, put something distinguishing in the name — the location, the team, the quarter — or you will be picking between two identical entries in every menu that lists them.

2. Calendar type — the permanent choice

Figure 2 — Choosing the template.

The template decides the event form, the view the calendar opens in, and the colour its events are drawn in.

Choose the template carefully — it cannot be changed later

When you edit an existing calendar this section shows the template as read-only. Changing it would change what every event on the calendar is required to contain, so the product does not offer it.

To move to a different template, create a new calendar and re-enter the events.

See calendar templates for what is available.

3. Configuration and defaults

FieldTypeRequiredHolds
TimezonePickerYesThe timezone the calendar's own times are expressed in
Default durationMinutesYesHow long a new event is, before you change it
Working daysMulti-selectYesWhich days a public booking page will offer

Working days affect the booking page, not your ability to create events — you can put an event on any day.

4. Public sharing and booking

Figure 4 — Public sharing and booking.

Off by default. Switching it on reveals:

AppearanceLight / Dark + colourNoThe booking page's theme
Booking identity mappingPickersGuest email requiredWhich event fields receive the visitor's email and phone

See share and embed and the public booking page.

5. Communication channels

Figure 5 — Communication channels.

Choose the email and WhatsApp connections that this calendar's invitations go out through. A calendar selects a connection; it does not create one. See event notifications.

6. Don't confuse this with…

ResourcesAllocated from the dashboard card's Manage resources button, not in this drawer — see calendar resources
The event formComes from the template. Nothing in this drawer edits it

7. Troubleshooting

SymptomCause
The template picker is read-onlyYou are editing an existing calendar. The template is fixed at creation
The sharing section is one switchSharing is off. Turn it on to reveal the rest
The booking page shows no timesNo resources are allocated, or the day is outside the working days
No connections to chooseNone are set up yet — they are created in Comm Channels
